Where’s my Turkey???
The November 2006 Match was titled, “Someone Stole the Turkey”. It seems that the cattle rustlers and horse thieves that run rampant around these here parts had stolen our prized bird that we had picked out for Thanksgiving!
The day started out at a chilly 38 degrees, but quickly warmed up and turned out to be quite warm for November. The skies were blue, the winds were calm, and the Regulators were ready for some action and retribution directed towards the turkey thieves!
We had 26 shooters toe the line and sling lead at the turkey rustlers. When the dust had settled and the smoke cleared away, there wasn’t a single turkey rustler left standing and we reclaimed our prize Thanksgiving turkey. Middle Creek Kid was our Top Gun, followed closely by A-Wall in second and Lil Weasel in third. The rest of the scores can be found on the website.
After the match we had a turkey shoot. This involved shooting five shots from a single action .22 pistol at the backs of playing cards. If you hit five cards, you played five cards. The winning hand was held by Dadeville Dude with a pair of Aces, a Queen, and a Six. Dadeville Dude took home the prize which was a $25.00 Gift Card from Food City. Congratulations to our winner!!!
We have made quite a bit of progress on the range in the past few months. O’Shea has designed some fantastic rifle/pistol targets which have cut down on bounce-back and splatter. The new range dividers have helped tremendously as well. A few weeks ago, several of us got together and removed most of the flooring and sides from the old barn. Nails were pulled and boards were stacked and we now have quite a good start on lumber to create the new stage fronts. Sammy Seay came over and pushed the rest of the barn over and it is now sitting on the ground. We will be having as many work parties as possible to fully dismantle the barn and salvage the wood and metal roofing.
The club has developed an Emergency Action Plan and it is posted on the wall of each shooting bay at the range. The information provides phone numbers for emergency services as well as directions to the local hospital in Rogersville. We also have tow first aid kits located in the target storage building for minor emergencies.
Beginning with the December 2006 match, the Greene County Regulators will hold their monthly matches on the first Saturday of the month. This will give us a chance to shoot at other clubs the rest of the month. Don’t forget to adjust your calendars!
Many of you are aware that the club has a message board that is accessible from the main webpage. There are numerous posts with match information and such. The board is there for your use, check it out.
We will be having our Annual Meeting sometime after the first of the year. The by-laws require that we hold this meeting during the first quarter of the year. This is when we elect club officers and deal with other club business. If you wish to hold a club office, notify Mort Dooley or any other club officer and put your name in the hat. Anyone that has an idea for a location to hold this meeting, let Mort know as well.
Club dues are due by January 1st. Current dues requirements are $30.00 for individual members and $50.00 for family memberships. You must have your dues paid before the annual meeting in order to be eligible to vote or hold office. A membership application must be filled out and accompanied by your dues payment. A copy of the membership application can be found online at the GCR Message Board.
I will be unable to attend the December match due to work. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the dedicated hard workers that have made this transition to the new range possible. I would also like to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving and hope that you all reflect on all that we have to be thankful for.
Be safe, shoot clean, and most of all…have fun.
