Unlucky Irish…???

The March 2007 Match was titled, “Unlucky Irish…”  It seems that the Irish sheepherders had invaded our range and were raising a ruckus in town as well!

The day started out a little chilly, but quickly warmed up and turned out to be quite nice.  The skies were blue, the winds were strong at times (20-25 mph gusts!  Quite a few hats went flying!), and the Regulators were ready for some action and retribution directed towards those dastardly Irish sheepherders!

We had 21 shooters toe the line and sling lead at the Irish sheepherders.  The pistol targets were painted with green shamrocks in the middle.  Those danged Irish sheepherders even painted green shamrocks on our new horse prop!  When the dust had settled and the smoke cleared away, there wasn’t a single drunken Irish sheepherder in sight.  No St. Patrick’s Day for them!  Mort Dooley was our Top Gun, followed closely by Middle Creek Kid in second and Tennessee Deadeye in third.  The difference in total time for the top shooters was only ten seconds!  The rest of the scores can be found on the website.

We have made quite a bit of progress on the range in the past few months.  O’Shea has designed some fantastic horse props for us with a special device to accommodate double barrel shotguns as well as 1897 and 1887 models.

Our first stage front is 98% complete.  It has four windows and a door and a roof as well and looks like a hotel.  Thanks to all of the folks that made this project a success.  Trooper Lark was able to get us over 2000 bricks from General Shale.  We will be using these to make walkways from the loading/unloading tables and the stage fronts.  No more mud to contend with will be really nice.

The month of May is the 100th birthday of John Wayne.  I am planning on writing some special stages with lines and stories from the Duke’s many western movies.  The Kentucky State match is the first weekend in May and Mule Camp is at the end of May.  We are considering moving our May monthly match date to the third Saturday in May to accommodate the folks that want to shoot in Kentucky and at Mule Camp and still be able to shoot our regular monthly match.  We will announce our decision at the April monthly match and on the message board as well.

Be safe, shoot clean, and most of all…have fun.
