Great Weather in February

Saturday started out on the cool side but didn't take long to turn into a great day for shooting with temperatures getting close to 60 degrees.  We had a total of 37 shooters that came to celebrate "40 Years of True Grit".  That was the title for the stages we shot written by our own William A.A. Wallace.  Thanks to A.A. for interesting scenarios from one of the Duke's most famous westerns.

We had shooters ride in from all over.  Double Eagle, Owlhoot Hardin, Outcast and Vinegarroon joined us and we were happy to see them back again.  Local boys Cumberland Mountain John, G.L. Hooker, Duffield, Bittercreek Jack, Turner Burn, Linus Rawlings and John Mandingo also joined us again.  Lucky R K, The Twilight Kid and Waco Marshal shot with us for their first time and we hope they enjoyed shooting as much as we enjoyed them being there.

Sunshine Billy was back with us and showed us why he wears a End of Trail Winner belt buckle.  Billy was the top Silver Senior and was the Overall Top Shooter for the day.  Great shooting Billy!!

Middle Creek Kid was the top Modern shooter with Mort Dooley top Traditional and 3rd overall.  The top 49'er was Double Eagle followed by TN Deadeye shooting Duelist.  Once again the classes for the top 5 shooters varied quite a bit.  The finish is always close because there are so many talented shooters at our matches.  That makes for lots of fun too.

We had nine shooters with a clean match (no misses, procedurals, or penalties).  Sunshine Billy, Mort Dooley, Tennessee Deadeye, Cherokee Deacon, Outcast, Shamrock Paddy, Sheepdog Slim, and Vinegarroon showed their skill and tenacity by not allowing one single bullet to miss a target!

The rest of the shooter’s scores can be found in the “Scores” section of our website.  Be sure to check them out.

Our annual meeting was held on January 26th at the Ryan's in Kingsport.  We had a good crowd out for a fine meal and to discuss upcoming club activities.   We also had our election for the 2008 club officers.  The results are as follows:

          President:                      Mort Dooley

          Vice President:              Hogleg Horn

          Secretary:                      Sheez Packen

          Treasurer:                     William A.A. Wallace

We also re-elected William A.A. Wallace as the Territorial Governor.

We had two recipients of the “Spirit of the Game” award this year.  Cherokee Deacon and Middle Creek Kid were selected for this award for their outstanding efforts in supporting the club and the work they have done on the range.  Congratulations to both of these fine cowboys!

With more plans for range improvements, it looks like 2008 will be another good year for the Regulators.  Lots of work was accomplished in 2007 and we appreciate everyone's contributions.

That's about it for this month, I hope to see everyone at the March shoot…so until next time, shoot straight and have fun the cowboy way, from the Ramrod, Mort Dooley.
