April Showers….?   No way!!!

The week preceding the April match had gloomy forecasts for thunderstorms and rain showers for Friday night and Saturday morning.  The storms passed well north of our area and we were greeted on Saturday morning with lots of sunshine, warm weather and a nice breeze!!

The gorgeous weather brought 31 cowboys and cowgirls to Greeneville to participate in a match designed to get rid of the dreaded “Stealth Bullet”.  The stages were written by Colonel Dan, head of the Stealth Bullet Shooting Society.  The layouts for the stages were written by yours truly.  There were five stages, each with its own limerick and special line to say….even in Pig Latin (Evernay Issmay!...Never Miss)!!

Three shooters shot the match clean and soundly defeated the dreaded stealth bullets!  Clean shooters were, Lil Weasel, Sheepdog Slim, and Boomer Fred.  Congratulations to you all!

After the five stages were shot, and the smoke had cleared, Lickcreek Kid was the overall match winner and first place Modern as well.  Closely followed by Ottway Smith (first place Duelist), Lil Weasel (first place 49er) and Middle Creek Kid (1st place Traditional).  It’s interesting to note that the top four finishers for this month’s match were from different classes!

Sheez Packin’ was first in Women’s 49er (and brought some great tasting ham rolls and cupcakes!!!  Thanks Patsy!!!), Hogleg Horn won Classic Cowboy, Bear Claws O’Connor won Senior, Tombstone Tim won Frontier Cartridge, and Bent Branch Bonnie won Women’s Modern.  Summer Breeze was the top Buckarette with her sister, B.N. Bonnet close behind.  I hope I didn’t leave out any of the winners for this month.  The way that I look at it…if you had fun, then you are a winner in my book!  Be sure to check out the rest of the scores on this website.

Thanks to Coon Dawg of Coon Dawg’s Emporium for setting up his vendor tent and providing door prizes for the match!  I even won a pair of bright yellow suspenders!  Peace Keeper and Lady Sedona were there as well from Maverick Leather…they are doing some really nice leather work for Cowboy Action shooting and joined our club with a family membership this weekend as well.  Let’s continue to show our support for Coon Dawg, Peace Keeper and Lady Sedona…it’s nice to have great vendors as part of our local club.

Gregg Powers (aka Quivering Quill) was on hand from the Johnson City Press newspaper to get material for an article to be published soon about our club.  He said that the article would be in the paper as well as on the Johnson City Press website.  Gregg wasn’t able to shoot any this weekend, but promised to come back and join us in the very near future.

Lots of things coming up in May…Kentucky State Match, Carolina Belles Bust Out! Match, our May monthly match, and of course…Mule Camp!  Looks to be a busy month for Cowboys and Cowgirls and I wish all of you the best during the rest of this month and next.  I won’t be able to be at our May match to shoot, but will probably drop by after lunch sometime.

Until then….Shoot straight, shoot clean, and most of all…have fun the Cowboy and Cowgirl Way!!
