100 years of Gene Autry…Regulators dispatch the bad guys and live up to the Cowboy Code!

The October 2007 match was dedicated to one of our favorite all time cowboys, Gene Autry.  Gene’s 100th birthday was September 29th, 2007, and in keeping with the Cowboy Way, the Greene County Regulators celebrated by having one heck of a shooting match!  Each stage was written with a short bio on Gene Autry and his Cowboy Code.

Gene Autry's Cowboy Code

The Cowboy must never shoot first, hit a smaller man, or take unfair advantage.

He must never go back on his word, or a trust confided in him.

He must always tell the truth.

He must be gentle with children, the elderly, and animals.

He must not advocate or possess racially or religiously intolerant ideas.

He must help people in distress.

He must be a good worker.

He must keep himself clean in thought, speech, action, and personal habits.

He must respect women, parents, and his nation’s laws.

The Cowboy is a patriot.

We had 45 shooters for the October match, which is our second largest crowd ever!  Thanks to all of our visitors and first time shooters!  Come back and shoot with us anytime!  When the smoke cleared, A.Wall was out top gunslinger followed by Middle Creek Kid and O’Shea.

This was one of the closest matches ever in the top six positions.  2nd place through 6th place was decided by only four rank points.  Just another example of some fine Cowboy Action shooting.

There were five competitors that shot clean matches.  Congratulations to William A.A. Wallace, Cherokee Deacon, Lady Sedona, Tennessee Hawk, and Doc Cherokee for making sure that every piece of steel was hit!

The flooring and railings were finally completed for our shelter building and it looks really nice and functional.  Thanks to Mort Dooley for hauling the lumber.  Thanks are extended to O’Shea, Middle Creek Kid, Cherokee Deacon, Trooper Lark, Cool Breeze, Winchester Wood, Shamrock Paddy, Mort Dooley and William A.A. Wallace for giving their time and dedication in getting this project completed.  We have begun a new stage front for bay 1 that should be completed in time for the November match.  The support poles are in place and construction will begin shortly.  Our range is looking good and it’s due to the hard work and dedication of our members.

Hope everyone had a great time this weekend and I’m looking forward to traveling to Roanoke, VA for the Virginia State Match on October 12th – 14th.  Good luck to all of the folks going to the Virginia State Match, Tennessee State Match and Wolf Creek Annual Match this coming weekend.

Until we meet again…shoot straight, shoot often, but most of all…be safe and have FUN!!!
