Nine High Country Cowboys Shoot with us in May

Saturday May 15th started at a pleasant 68 degrees at 8.00am.  The cowpokes from the Ashville Club; High Country Cowboys started rolling in right away. We had a total of 28 shooters, two who were first timers, and Dandy Diamond a junior girl joined us for the first time.

We voted in our Greene County Regulator By-Laws at a short meeting at 9.15 a.m. by a unanimous vote. Next Lick Creek Kid presented Rhea with a $50.00 gift certificate for the great work she has done on painting the signs for the Saloon and the Jail. Tennessee Deadeye in appreciation for the hard work of the club officers presented each with a handmade Walnut Loading Block. At 9.35 Hi-Wall Johnson gave our safety meeting and we broke up in to two posses to start shooting the interesting and historical stages that Tombstone Tim had written.

Posse one was led by Lick Creek Kid, Shamrock Paddy, and Buckshot Cogburn. Posse two was led by Tennessee Deadeye, Diamondback Dennis, and Mort Dooley. The posses worked very well and after three stages we broke for lunch. Rhea had fixed another great lunch, Jambalaya with shrimp, andoule sausage, rice, and various Cajun spices, homemade cornbread, chips, drinks, and cake all for $4.00. Also Sheez Packin brought us some homemade cookies and brownies for desert. Coon Dawg was set up with his great Cowboy Duds, and had some complete outfits for only $68.00, which if purchased separately was over a $110.00 value. These included pants, shirt, suspenders, arm garters, ammo/brass bags, and neckerchiefs. Ladies had comparable clothing packages too. Coon Dawg graciously donated several pieces of clothing to be raffled off at our June shoot.

Stage five could be shot twice for a $5.00 donation to our Texas Star target fund. The shooters who shot it twice raised $75.00 and our total has now grown to $350.00- less than $100.00 to go!

When the smoke cleared Ringer/Ifin Ida Shotbedder was our top gun ,with Diamondback Dennis second, Lick Creek Kid third, Carolina Gem fourth and our Top Lady shooter, Hi-Wall Johnson was fifth and our top Duelist. Dandy Diamond was our second place lady and our top junior, Sheez Packin was our third place lady, Action Annie was fourth, and Calamity Cricket was fifth in Ladies traditional.

By 2.00 p.m. the mercury had topped 90 degrees. Everyone needs to make sure they drink plenty of water on these warmer days and add an umbrella on their gun carts for shade from the hot summer sun. Until next month, Vaya Con Dios, Your Ramrod Tennessee Deadeye
