MAY 2003 NEWS
May 17th dawned with an 80% chance of rain. Deadeye had written 6 challenging stages and I thought we would shoot them faster than we, however we made it through 6 stages with nothing more than a few rain drops. I promise we will not use the can thrower shotgun targets on more than one stage in the future.
Coon Dawg came and setup his tent with his cowboy clothing and some other cowpoke goods. He offered club members a special package deal for $69.95 this package included pants, suspenders, shirt, & arm garters. He also donated a shirt, a bullet bag, and a pair of arm garters which were drawn for at lunch and given to the winners.
Todd Shipley of the Hot Dawg Hut in Greeneville catered lunch again which consisted of two hot dogs with chili, chips, drink, and a cookie.
We set a new club record with 33 shooters in the May 17th match. In June we will only shoot 5 stages. This will be a taste of Mule Camp that Ringer has come up with. Deadeye and Ringer took the SASS range officer safety RO1 & RO2 schools at Mule Camp and passed with flying colors. We will be offering a SASS RO1 school in the near future.
Diamondback Dennis finished 20th overall at Mule camp, Ringer finished 43rd, Carolina Gem and Deadeye were 2 of the 40 that shot all ten stages clean out of 547 shooters. Also shooting from the club were Shamrock Paddy and Coon Dawg. Congratulations these shooters did a great job representing the Greene County Regulators at the Southeast SASS Regional in Gainesville Georgia May 22 - 25th.
When the smoke cleared at our May 17th shoot Diamondback Dennis was first, Ifin Ida Shotbedder was second, Clink was third, and new shooter Lickcreek Kid was forth, and Hi-wall Johnson our top duelist shooter and finished fifth. Carolina Gem was our top lady shooter, with Dixieland Delite second, and Summer Dove third, and Flossie forth. Matt Dillon was our top junior shooter. We had three shooters join this month Shadow, Sandy Trails, and Jack Daniels.
After the shoot we had a shooters clinic taught by ringer, deadeye, diamondback Dennis, and Carolina gem. Due to the match lasting longer than usual we had only four students. the two hour clinic was excellent and we will try to schedule another in the fall. Thanks again to Diamondback Dennis and Carolina Gem for helping out.
