MARCH 2004 NEWS
G.C.R. Shoot 1st Day of Spring
At 6.30am it was a chilly 39 degrees. At 7.00 am Mort Dooley and Ringer were on WFHG 92.7 talk radio in Bristol Va. on the Blue Ridge Outdoors show hosted by Joe Byrd. For the next 2 hours, Cowboy Action Shooting, SASS, and the Greene County Regulators were the topics of discussion. At 8.30 am it had warmed up to 49 degrees and the gamers side-match started on bay 3. For $3.00 shooters could pre shoot stage 5 once. The funds from these side matches will go toward our Texas Star Target fund. C.A.Daver had written 5 fun, unique, and challenging stages for us.
Rea was back and cooking up a storm. For lunch she made Buffalo & Venison stew, Chicken and Dumpling, Cornbread, drinks, and cookies.
Danged if we haven’t missed your cooking the last two months! At 10.00am it had clouded up and started to sprinkle rain, by divine intervention the sky cleared and the sun came out and warmed up to 70 degrees.
We will have a workday Saturday April 3rd at the range to build a safety barrier between Bay1 & Bay2. Bring a hammer, rechargeable drill; saw horse, circular saw, and gloves. This will enable us to shoot the Saloon and Jail front safely even with shooters on Bay1. We will start at 9.30am and should finish by 1.30pm. Also check our website www.greenecountyregulators.com for our proposed GCR By-laws. We will vote on the By-laws at the April 17th match. Copies will be available then.
Twenty-one shooters and 10 spectators turned out for our March shoot.
When the smoke cleared Hi-wall Johnson was our top gunslinger and Duelist, Lick Creek Kid was second, Amos Bass was third, Tennessee Deadeye was fourth, and Quickdraw was fifth. Hezekiah Hawke was our top 49er, Hombre Sin Nombre was top senior, Matt Dillon was our top junior, and C.A.Daver was our top frontier cartridge shooter. We were glad to have Amos Bass & Quickdraw back from North Carolina shooting with us again.
Danged if they haven’t both been practicing!
Thanks Ringer for letting the spectators shoot a stage with your guns and ammo on Bay 1! We have seven Regulators and possibly two more shooting Mule Camp in May in Covington Ga. This is great, the Knoxville club has never had more than 5 to shoot Mule Camp. I think we can have three or four shooters in the top 100 out of over 500 shooters.
Until next month, Via Con Dios, Your Ramrod Tennessee Deadeye
