G.C.R. JULY 17TH Shoot/49ers Sweep 4 of 7 Top Positions
July 17th dawned a pleasant 60 degrees, by 9.30am it had warmed up to a pleasant 74 degrees. Sheez Packin and Trooper Lark had generously picked up a couple of dozen Krispy Kreme donuts and brought them to share with us. Thanks Very Much! Shamrock Paddy had written five fast paced, interesting, and challenging stages. We had 26 shooters shoot it out under a slightly overcast sky and warm temperatures.
Ringer and Lick Creek Kid headed up posse 1, Tennessee Deadeye and Mort Dooley headed up posse 2. We had seven spectators who watched and several who strapped on leather and guns and shot a stage after we had finished. Good news Willoughby has taken a new job, which keeps him in our local area. He is currently working on our website to add streaming video of some of our shooters. We also have plans to add a message/ forum board to enable members to keep in touch. The North Carolina State Championship the Uprising at Swearing Creek is Sept. 2nd-4th.
Entry fee before August 1st is $90.00, after the 1st a $25.00 late fee is added. Several of our G.C.R. members are shooting in it. Next is the Tennessee State Championship October 7th-9th
In Wartrace Tn. Charlie Bowdrie and Sassy Lara held the first one last year and have an even bigger and better one planed this year. As of now we have 10 club members planning to attend, and I know they will do us proud. Also in August the SASS Homecoming will be in Gatlinburg August 20th-22nd, and the Virginia State Championship will be held the same dates in Roanoke Va. as well as our regular G.C.R. monthly shoot August 21st.
When the smoke cleared Ringer was our top gun as well as our top 49er, Tennessee Deadeye was second Overall and as a 49er, Lick Creek Kid was third and our top Traditional shooter, Mort Dooley was fourth, and Ottway Smith was fifth and our top Duelist shooter. Sheez Packin was our top Lady shooter, Honeysuckle Sue was second, and Hepsibah Hawke was third. We had two new shooters in July, Money Man and Wahoo Weasel, Welcome! The G.C.R. officers voted to add some new shooting categories, a new shooters class that all new shooters would be in for their first four shoots, a senior class for shooters 60 and over, and a Classic Cowboy/Cowgirl class. The G.C.R. officers have some big plans for September Shoot which will be our Second Anniversary of our club. Each of the officers will write one of the six stages we will shoot. Lets make September our biggest and best shoot yet!
Until next month, Via Con Dios, Your Ramrod Tennessee Deadeye
