Great Turnout for January Match

For our first match of 2005, we had a really great turnout despite the cold start at around 25 degrees.  There were 16 cowboys ready to take on the cold and the targets we had lined up.  The stages were a repeat from August, taken from the second part of the movie “Silverado”.  Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t a repeat too.  With two campfires burning to help with the cold, we began the match.

The temperatures continued to be pretty low as we shot the first two stages.  Things were beginning to warm up though by the time we made it to the third stage.  Stages four and five were comfortable and many of the cowboys were able to shed their coats and dusters enjoying the sunny day.  We had planned our Annual meeting at the Homestead restaurant just outside of Greeneville, so after the final stage, everyone helped with the targets and we had the range cleared faster than a tornado moves across the prairie.  It’s funny how the thought of food will motivate a bunch of cowboys ain’t it?

Top Gun for January was Mort Dooley shooting Traditional, followed closely by Ottway Smith in Senior Duelist.  Doc Willoughby was third overall, second in Traditional.  Shooting Modern was Hezekiah Hawke in fourth and TN Deadeye, fifth, shooting 49er.  Be sure to check out the rest of the scores as well as some new items on the website.  We want to thank Doc Willoughby for doing a great job maintaining our website too.  Thanks a lot Doc.

The Regulators hit the trail and rode on down to the Homestead for some grub and to chew the fat on club matters by the fire for a while.  About the only thing better than shooting a cowboy match is eating with a bunch of good cowboys afterwards.

Several things were discussed for 2005 such as club badges and certificates for the winners at each match.  New officers were also elected for this year.

Officers for 2005 are as follows:

Ramrod, Mort Dooley; Foreman, Ottway Smith; Top Hand, Hogleg Horn; Secretary, Shamrock Paddy; Bean Counter, Doc Willoughby; Marshal, TN Deadeye.

Hezekiah Hawke will be planning some rides to other shoots such as the Raid on Andersonville.  More information concerning these shoots will be available from Hezekiah soon.  This way, Regulators can travel as a group to big matches if they want to.  Some big matches in the nearby future will be End of Trail in April and Mule Camp in May.

Several of us have already made plans to attend both of these so if you have questions just contact one of us for information.  That’s about it for this month so shoot straight, shoot clean and have fun the cowboy way and we’ll look for you on the range.

 The Ramrod, Mort Dooley.
