Another Good Year for the Regulators

Well, it seems like it has been a while since our last newsletter.  Apparently folks do read them because I have been asked where they are lately.  I have been pretty busy at work for the last few months and at home and haven’t had much time to pen a newsletter.  My apologies to each of you who take the time to read them.  Hopefully, I won’t miss any in the future.

October was a good month for our club.  We had so much fun at our regular match that Boozy Creek wanted to shoot again on Halloween since it was a 5 week month.  Since our regular November match conflicted with the North Carolina State match and several of our members were headed to shoot there, we did have a Halloween shoot with about 20 shooters.  It was kind of a messy day but we managed to get through and had lots of fun in the process.

Following our two shoots in October, our regular November match was held on the usual day at the usual time.  Again we had about 20 shooters and another fun match.  The weather for this shoot was a little better if my memory serves me correctly.

December brought a cold, snowy forecast for our match day.  It was looking like no one at all was going to show except for myself and Cherokee Deacon for a little while.  Deacon and I had set up 4 stages on Friday because we had been getting plenty of rain and the ground was pretty soft at bays 2, 3 and 4.  We doubled up the stages and were planning to shoot two from our covered stages on bays 1 and 5.  Slowly, a few more showed and when we began the match, there were 7 cowboys standing in the snow with me and Peacekeeper who came to help with registration since Lady Sedona was under the weather.  Thanks for your help Peacekeeper.

The snow covered the countryside and made a very pretty picture to look at.  Kid Ziggy, Lil Weasel, Sheepdog Slim, Boozy Creek, Cherokee Deacon, Tombstone Tim and TN Critr didn’t let the weather slow them down though.  We were shooting and having a ball despite the wintry conditions.  I am sure you have already checked the scores for the match so I won’t bother to repeat them here.  Congratulations to all of our shooters for helping to make this another great year for the Greene County Regulators.

I hope that 2010 will be as good for us as 2009 was.  Be sure to keep an eye on the GCR Message board for information concerning our annual meeting that will be held in January.  Right now it looks like it will be back at Pratt’s Barn in Kingsport probably on the 4th Saturday night.  We will finalize plans and let you know soon.

Thanks again to everyone for a very fun year of cowboy action shooting.  I hope that you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  That just about wraps it up until the next match in January so until next time, shoot straight and have fun the cowboy way, from the Ramrod, Mort Dooley.
