It was a hot and humid August day…
The Greene County Regulators rode into “Bordertown” and shot five fast and furious stages on a hot and humid day in August. We had 35 shooters attend this match and a great time was had by all in attendance!
Six time World Champion China Camp (aka Dennis Ming), passed away after having a heart attack just a few days before our match. Our prayers are with his family at this time. China Camp ranks right up there with all of the great Cowboys of our time and will be sorely missed by his SASS family and friends. This month’s match theme was “Rest in Peace” which was very fitting after the passing of this fine man.
A. Wall was our Top Gunslinger and 1st place Traditional shooter as well, followed closely by Rio Drifter (2nd place Traditional) and William A.A. Wallace (3rd place Traditional). Summer Breeze was our Top Lady Gunslinger (1st place Lady Junior and 7th place overall).
Four cowboys shot a clean match, with many others having just one or two misses! The cowboys that went “Bang – Clang” on every piece of steel were: Tennessee Deadeye, Coon Dog, Cherokee Deacon and Vinegeroon. Great shootin’, pards!
As you may have noticed in the first paragraph, we had some discussion on naming our range this past weekend. The suggestion of “Bordertown” was well received and we voted and adopted that as our range name. We’ll have to get some “Welcome to Bordertown” signs made up soon!
We also discussed scoring issues at the monthly matches. For the past six years, we have used Rank Scoring for our matches. SASS requires Rank Scoring at SASS Sanctioned Regional Matches and above. It is up to the clubs that host State Matches and below to determine whether to use Rank Scoring or Total Time Scoring. The August match was scored using Rank Scoring. There is a link on the August 2008 Match Scores that will show the standings if Total Time was used. Look over both methods and we will discuss this again at the October match.
The September 2008 match will be our 6th Anniversary Match and will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2008. The cost for this match will be $25.00 which will include the match fee, a Greene County Regulators hat and lunch after the match. This match will be scored using Total Time to facilitate calculating the scores at the end of the match. There will be a trophy awarded to the Top Male and Female Gunslingers. Each shooter that places 1st in their Category will receive a certificate for a “FREE MATCH” in the future (choose your category wisely as they say)! Come out and have a great time, great food, and lots of fun!
Keep our Ramrod, Mort Dooley, and his Mother in your prayers. Mort’s Mother had surgery recently and we all hope that she gets well soon.
Until next time…shoot straight, have fun, and most of all…be safe.
