The Apple Dumpling Gang and SNOW!!

The April match was written and directed by none other than A-Wall and his lovely daughter, Summer Breeze.  The stages were written based upon the 1975 Disney Movie, “The Apple Dumpling Gang”, starring Tim Conway, Don Knotts, Harry Morgan, and many others.  The tag line of the movie was, “First they blew into town…then they BLEW IT UP!”  The story line, based upon the movie…three orphaned children strike gold in 1878 California.  The stages were well written, and we dug for gold, blew up some dynamite, and put lots of lead on steel.  It’s nice to have folks step up and write stages for the club and we congratulate A-Wall and Summer Breeze on a job well done.

Although Spring “officially” began in March, the April match was fraught with cold, windy and snowy conditions!  I looked at my thermometer as I left the house and it showed that it was 19 degrees outside!  Looked like Easter weekend was going to be colder than Christmas!  The temperature never got out of the 30’s all day and it snowed some and the winds got up to about 20 mph.  Brrrrr….what a way to spend a “Spring” day!  We had 20 cowboys and cowgirls show up to brave these cold and windy conditions and they all had a great time!

We had two brand new Cowboy Action shooters, Turkey Foot Jim and Saw Cat.  These two pards did a heck of a job at their first match.  We hope to see them back on a regular basis in the future.

Top Gunslinger goes to Mort Dooley with only ten rank points in five stages.  Way to go, Cowboy!  A-Wall was second overall and The Ottway Smith was third.  Trooper Lark and Doc Cherokee had a clean match.  Special notice goes to our Buckarette shooter, Summer Breeze for finishing 10th overall and she only had three misses.  The rest of the scores can be found on the club website.

The Kentucky State Match will be the first weekend in May.  Trooper Lark, Sheez Packin, O’Shea and myself will be there representing our club and will not be at our monthly match.  Please assist our President, Mort Dooley, with setting up the range and running the match in our absence.

I am planning a RO I class for the near future.  If you are interested in obtaining your RO I certification, let Mort Dooley or myself know.

Be safe, shoot straight, and most of all HAVE FUN!
