Regulators Celebrate 3rd Anniversary

It doesn't seem like it's been too long ago since we were shooting our first cowboy action match in Greeneville at the TAC-2 range.  This month, we celebrated our third year as a cowboy club and had a big time doing it.  Since our first match, we have added new targets, the saloon and jail and more cowboys and cowgirls.

For this special match, we decided to have a two stage main match and several side matches the rest of the day.  Shooters were free to try their hands at one speed pistol, two speed pistols, speed rifle, our Texas Death Star or the 3 man team match.  The cowboys and girls could shoot the side matches as many times as they wanted.  This seemed to work pretty well and allowed everyone to get in a full day of shooting.

We had several new shooters to our club along with many spectators.  Winchester Wood, Dirty Dick, Ambush Annie, Sasparilla Stacy and Oil Well Willie joined us in celebrating our anniversary and we hope to see each one of them back.  Sixgun Jeff and Hacksaw Hurt came back to shoot with us again and we were glad they did.

Among the spectators, local newspaper writer George Thwaites from the Kingsport Times News looked on as we all sent lead downrange.  Local radio host Joe Byrd from WFHG 92.7 FM or 980 AM not only watched, he grabbed guns and shot too.

George put pen to paper and wrote a really nice article about our club that was printed September 20, 2005 in the sports section.  Thanks George for the great story on us.

Joe invited myself, William AA Wallace, A-Wall, Summer Breeze and B.N. Bonnett to be guests on his radio talk show "Outdoors with Joe Byrd" this Saturday from 7:00 to 9:00 am.  This will be the third time the Regulators have been featured on his program.

After the two stage main match, Mort Dooley barely edged out Ringer by only .07 seconds.  Pretty close shooting.  O'Shea, Killen Hollow Clyde and A-Wall followed right behind.  Killen Hollow Clyde is really doing well after only about 4 matches with us.  He's making a name for himself pretty quickly as a top shooter.  Clyde also had a clean match in August too.

Ringer took top honors in all of the side matches winning each one.  No surprise considering he finished 7th at Mule Camp in 2005 and won the 49'er class.  Good shooting Ringer.

Doc Willoughby has all of the scores listed in the Scores section on the website so be sure to check them out.

After we had all shot the main stages, we took time to eat pizza and have soft drinks for lunch.  We also gave away prizes to all of the participants present.  The club would like to thank Ottway Smith, William AA Wallace, TN Deadeye, Shamrock Paddy, Mort Dooley, O'Shea, Doc Willoughby, Hogleg Horn, Ringer and The Gun Rack in Kingsport for the prizes donated and for helping to plan and set-up this match.

I'd like to take a moment to thank Hogleg Horn for his work behind the scenes in our club making our winner's certificates each month and doing a great job at it.  Thanks Hogleg.

I'd also like to thank all the fine cowboys and cowgirls who come out to shoot with us and have a good time each month.  We always have great shoots because we have great people.

Don't forget also, "The Gunfight at Wolf Creek" over in Asheville with the High Country Cowboys next month on the second Saturday.  It should be a really good match.

I hope to see everyone back at our October match in Greeneville on the 15th .   Until next month, shoot straight and have fun the cowboy way from the Ramrod, Mort Dooley.
