New Year Sets New Record for January Shoot of the Greene County Regulators.,

Saturday January 17th dawned an overcast chilly 36 Degrees.  We had 17 shooters and five spectators show up. Tom Thornburg  showed up with 2 steel drum fireplaces he made for us and a load of firewood. This was fantastic as we immediately put one to work keeping us warm. Tom went to all this effort for us and he didn’t even get to shoot with us as he had to head out on the road trucking that afternoon. Now that’s Cowboy Spirit!

We had three new shooters: Hezekiah Hawke, Will Dobedder, and Rawhide Kid who is Tombstone Tim’s brother. From the grins on their faces I think we will have three new club members. Sunshine Billy made his 3 hour drive to shoot with us and told us about his experiences at the SASS convention in Las Vegas in December. Maybe some day we will all be so lucky. Sunshine Billy also took his RO1, and RO2 Classes at the convention, Good Job Sunshine Billy!

We shot five stages without getting wet and the temperature climbed to 47 degrees and when the smoke cleared Lick Creek Kid was our Top Gun, Hi-Wall Johnson was second and our Top Duelist shooter, Sunshine Billy was third, Tennessee Deadeye was fourth, and Ottway Smith was fifth. Sheez Packin was our top Lady Shooter. We paid Doc Bryant $400.00  for our Liability insurance for 2004 so we can remain a SASS affiliated club.

We have on order 12 resettable Knock Down Shotgun Targets from HandleBar Doc, so we need to get everyone’s dues in for 2004. These targets will be ready in late May and we will take delivery on these at Mule Camp so we will not have to pay for freight or shipping charges. These are the same Targets that are used at Mule Camp, Tennessee State Championship at Wartrace,  and at End Of Trail.

17 shooters this January compared to 8 last year was great!  The fact that it was 36 degrees compared to 10 degrees last year and 3 inches of snow might have had something to do with  that.  Also our pardoner Ringer fell on some ice a few weeks ago and broke some ribs, we all wish him a speedy recovery! Our next shoot is Saturday February 21st lets see if we can top January’s turn out. Until next month, Vaya Con Dios,
