Summer is Finally Here!!
Hello Regulators!
Well, Summer is finally here and it was a little warm and humid at the range on Saturday, but we had 34 shooters come out to have fun and shoot up the bad guys. I wrote the stages (with the assistance of Doc Shapiro’s new computer generated stage writing program) and they were fun and fast paced. I thought I’d try something new with the stage writing program and may still use it for ideas throughout the year. Some pards said that the way I “normally” write stages is easier to understand, so I guess I’ll go back to the old way and just combine some new shooting orders in with the old. Several folks have expressed an interest in writing stages and that’s fine with me. If you have ideas that you’d like to implement, or wish to write stages for a monthly match, feel free to contact me and I’ll help you any way I can.
We had several new shooters and we welcome them all, and welcome to the shooters that we haven’t seen in quite awhile. Sheepdog Slim was there and we’ve missed him while his Mother was in the hospital. Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be sent his way.
After the smoke cleared (mostly from Hogleg Horn’s black powder loads), the results are as follows:
Clean Shooters (no misses, procedurals/penalties)
Tennessee Slim and Doc Cherokee
Top five shooters overall:
Ringer – Top Gun
Middle Creek Kid – 2nd Place
Rio Drifter – 3rd Place
Trooper Lark – 4th Place
Tennessee Deadeye – 5th Place
We had two new “Buckaroo Shooters”, Festus Junior and Deacon Junior and they shot the match with .22 pistols and .22 rifle. They attended the practice day we had last month and I believe they are hooked on Cowboy Action Shooting!! Their Dad, Five Card, shot with us as well and his lovely wife kept score for my posse for the entire match. The Buckaroo scores are listed separately since they did not compete with shotguns. At the end of the match, Festus Junior just barely edged out Deacon Junior for the win!
Congratulations to all of these fine shooters! The rest of the scores can be found on the Scores section of the website.
Thanks to Tennessee Deadeye for donating his time and the lumber and metal roofing for the construction of loading/unloading table covers for several of the stages. These will come in handy when it rains or the sun is beating down on us around August. Thanks to Cherokee Deacon for providing his generator and time and services as well to assist in the project.
Thanks to Trooper Lark for driving all the way from Bristol, VA to mow the range last week. He spent about 4 hours mowing and cleaning up the range. If you’d like to volunteer to mow or run a weedeater at the range let myself or one of the other Club officers know. Trooper Lark has mowed several times over the past few months, but it’s a little far for one person to continually have to drive.
Another note of thanks goes to Middle Creek Kid who has fabricated a 20 foot stainless steel flag pole for our use at the range. We will get it installed shortly and have a real flagpole to display the nice flag that Trooper Lark has donated to the club.
We miss the folks that are regular attendees and hope that you can return soon! SASS in general, and our club in particular, is like a big ol’ family. The only difference is that we hold a “family reunion” every month! Come down and join us next month on July 7th for some Cowboy Action Shooting and lots of fun!!
Until we meet again…shoot straight, shoot often, but most of all…be safe and have FUN!!!
